The Position

The City of Portland is seeking two Planner & Schedulers to join the Portland Bureau of Transportation's Maintenance Operations Group!

About the Positions: The Sidewalks Planner & Scheduler and the Traffic Signs & Pavement Marking Planner & Scheduler are responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating the work of field staff.

What you'll get to do:

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of skilled and semi-skilled craft level maintenance staff engaged in the routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of public infrastructure
  • Utilize computer software such as Arc GIS, Maximo, and SAP to process work orders
  • Verify labor and materials are charged correctly to each work order number prior to closing
  • Utilize strong communication to ensure all parties are clear on needs and expectations
  • Work with information and data management systems to create standard procedures & optimize schedules
  • Verify labor and materials have been charged correctly to each work order

About the specific vacancies:

  • Sidewalks Planner & Scheduler: This position will assist within the Maintenance Construction Division which oversees maintenance of the City's Sidewalks, Green Spaces, Street Cleaning, and Structural assets such as bridges, tunnels, and stairways. An ideal candidate will have the ability to balance multiple deadlines, provide excellent customer service internally and externally, and champion a collaborative work style.

  • Traffic Signs & Pavement Marking Planner & Scheduler: This position will assist the Traffic Signs & Pavement Marking section which oversees signage, pavement markings, and traffic delineators throughout the city. An ideal candidate will have an aptitude for continuous improvement, experience tracking performance metrics and indicators, and knowledge of Manual Uniform Traffic Control Device regulations and applicable federal/state/local laws pertaining to Traffic Signs & Pavement Markings.

**Please note: This recruitment will establish an eligible list that will be utilized to fill both vacancies however the selection process is anticipated to be run separately. **

To Qualify

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

  1. Experience using MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel) computer applications and maintenance management or scheduling systems such as: Maximo & Synergen.
  2. Knowledge of the materials & equipment used in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of large public works systems.
  3. Experience reading and understanding technical documents such as: blueprints, drawings, specifications, and sketches pertaining to the work.
  4. Experience preparing clear and concise records, reports and other written materials including attention to detail technical reports such as: work orders, standard operating procedures, and performance metrics and indicators
  5. Experience providing excellent customer service to diverse internal and external stakeholders and ability to champion a collaborative work style while balancing multiple deadlines
  6. Ability to prioritize standard daily work and contribute to a culture of safety, organizational excellence, stewardship, and professionalism
